Prepare the devices you will take
Install pending updates, check that device encryption and screen locks are enabled, and make sure every device can be located or remotely locked. Take only the equipment you need and avoid keeping unnecessary personal information on a travel device.
Make access and recovery straightforward
Check that multi-factor authentication will work while abroad. An authenticator app is often more reliable than relying only on text messages. Ensure recovery contacts are current and that you can access important passwords through a secure password manager.
Plan connectivity carefully
Use a trusted mobile connection or personal hotspot for sensitive work where possible. Public Wi-Fi can be useful for ordinary browsing, but it is not the right place for important account changes, payment activity or confidential documents.
Leave a clear support route
Keep the contact details for your technology support provider available separately from the device itself. If a device is lost, a message looks suspicious or access is blocked, knowing who to call saves valuable time.
A CONSIDERED NEXT STEP
Review the whole environment.
Technology risks rarely sit in isolation. A short review can identify priorities across people, devices, accounts, connectivity and recovery.
