Tech Support Inc has set up and configured a complete office network as part of a London Family Office move. That experience reinforces a useful starting point: coordinate the network and the working environment as one project. This checklist sets out the questions to agree before moving day.
Start with the people and systems
List who needs to work from the new office and what they depend on: email, shared files, business applications, phones, printers and meeting-room equipment. Include visitors and remote workers. Name one person who can confirm requirements and coordinate decisions with the building team.
Keep this inventory practical. The aim is to prevent essential tasks being overlooked, rather than to replace a full technical assessment.
Confirm connectivity before committing to the move
Confirm which internet services are available at the new address, the supplier’s installation date and where the connection enters the premises. Coordinate access with the landlord or building manager. Review the proposed equipment location, power and cabling before furniture arrangements are finalised.
If connectivity will not be ready for the move date, agree a temporary working arrangement and its limitations in advance.
Plan the network around the new office
Treat wired connections, Wi-Fi and the equipment that uses them as one environment. Consider desk locations, meeting rooms, visitor access and devices such as printers. The new office may need a different layout from the old premises even when the team and equipment are unchanged.
Record who will configure the equipment and who will retain authorised access after the move. Keep credentials out of general move checklists.
Agree a cutover and recovery plan
Decide when systems can be disconnected, who will transport equipment and which services need to be ready first. Check that important information can be recovered before making changes. Record supplier contacts and the steps to take if the move cannot proceed as expected.
The plan should give the office a clear route to continue essential work while problems are resolved.
Test everyday work and complete the handover
Before the first normal working day, test the tasks people actually need: signing in, opening shared files, making calls, using meeting-room equipment and printing where required. Check Wi-Fi in the rooms that will be used. Record outstanding issues with an owner and next step.
Finish with an agreed equipment inventory, support contacts and a record of the new environment. A move is easier to support when this information stays current.
